Case

The City of Whittier proposed to demolish the c.1934 California Domestic Water buildings on a claimed exemption from CEQA. Historicity was disputed. Following full briefing on the merits of a mandamus petition, the parties settled the case for the prominent relocation and rehabilitation of the primary office building on the same Whittier Boulevard site. The relocation occurred in May 2011, and will allow expanded commercial use of the center of the site.
